The Blue Mountains, west of Sydney, is one of Australia's great nature destinations. Thickly forested valleys rimmed by remarkable cliff formations offer a wealth of experiences for bushwalkers, wildlife spotters, and of course nature photographers. The Three Sisters is the true landmark of the region, best viewed from the Echo Point lookout. This photo was taken in winter, when the valleys often fill with fog that can last for days. In fact this photo required a few days' patience waiting for the fog to clear. The result is an image that captures all the character and mystery of this great landmark.
