Fraser Island, situated off the Queensland Coast a few hours' drive North of Brisbane, is the world's largest sand island. It is one of the only places in the world where a full rainforest ecosystem can be found growing out of pure sand. As you would expect, you can also find some of the world's best beaches on Fraser Island. This photo, taken just after sunrise on Cathedral Beach, captures a wonderful moment of isolation. Looking as far as possible into the distance, I realised I was the only soul in sight. The chance to have such a magnificent scene all to yourself is rare indeed.
