Noosa National Park, at the northern end of Queensland's Sunshine Coast, draws visitors by the million, but it has never been spoiled by the development that usually follows such popularity. On the edge of the Noosa, a thriving tourist town, it attracts day-trippers from Brisbane looking for a surf, along with international visitors keen to enjoy some great coastline scenery. Pandanus palms like this once ringed the sandy beaches and rocky headlands of the national park, but rangers are now fighting to keep them alive. Environmental changes and the pressure on the park caused by such large numbers of visitors are taking their toll in this icon of the region.
