- Giant Tree Frog
Giant (White Lipped) Tree Frog, North Queensland
Photograph by Andrew Goodall
Once called the White Lipped Tree Frog, The Giant Tree Frog is an impressive sight in the tropics. About four times the size of the common Green Tree Frog, it is quite an experience to meet one. They love cool places with access to water and hollows to hide in during the day, so they are commonly found in (of all places) the brickwork of campground toilet blocks! Many a backpacker has encountered more than they bargained for while answering a late-night call of nature. As rainfall patterns change worldwide, the range of habitat for the Giant Tree Frog is shrinking, but happily they are still plentiful in Australia's tropical north.
