Kangaroo at Sunrise, Cape Hillsborough, Queensland

Of all our Kangaroo photos at Cape Hillsborough, this is my favourite. The colour and movement of the image, combined with the split-second timing of capturing the kangaroo just as the sun peeps over the island, is one of my proud career moments. People are often surprised at the notion of a kangaroo in the water, but these animals are quite good swimmers, and have been known to leap into the surf to escape predators. Nothing so sinister was happening here, he just seemed to be enjoying a dip in the warm North Queensland water.
