Chamber's Pillar is a well known formation on the Western fringes of the Simpson Desert. Once a landmark for outback explorers, it is now an attraction for hardy tourists willing to take the long and bumpy ride out from Alice Springs. Unfortunately its popularity leads to man-made problems, and Chamber's Pillar now has to be protected from fools who want to carve their names in the rocks. To do so invites a very heavy fine. Like all the attractions of the outback, I encourage anyone to make the effort to see it for themselves, but please...leave it as you find it.
