- Uluru Desert Oaks
Desert Oaks, Uluru,
Northern Territory, Australia.
I have actually overheard people say "Why would you go all that way just to look at a rock?" To see Uluru for the first time is an experience that cannot be explained. The sheer size of 'The Rock' creates an atmosphere, a sense of timeless mystery, that inspires writers, photographers and artists from around the world. Because of its status as one of Australia's most sacred sites, professional photographers must have a permit to work in the national park. This image, looking out from under the branches of two desert oaks, is an unusual angle that required special permission from the park rangers, and it was well worth the effort. After several years it remains one of my favourite photos.
