Another of the amazing rainforest images from this small but inspirational national park, just north of Townsville. The tree which dominates this photo is slowly being taken over by a strangler fig, which grows down from a seed deposited high in the canopy, probably by a bird. Using the host tree for support, it will eventually be strong enough to support itself and the host tree will die. The hollow spaces left behind will create homes for possums and other wildlife. Just one of the incredible sights of the rainforest, and a reminder of the power of photography remind us of the value of these precious environments which must be preserved for future generations.
