One of Australia's truly prehistoric landscapes, the Pinnacle Desert in Western Australia was formed millions of years ago when the entire region was under the ocean. Limestone formations have been exposed as the sandstone erodes away. Some of these pinnacles are the size of a pencil, others over 2 metres tall. Unfortunately they need to be protected from vandals and souvenir hunters...as is so often the case, it is we who are the greatest threat to our own natural heritage. As the saying goes, "Leave only footprints, take only photographs."
