SPEND A GREAT WEEKEND IN MALENY
WITH NATURE PHOTOGRAPHER ANDREW GOODALL
OF
NATURE'S IMAGE PHOTOGRAPHY

The skills you learn in just two days will last you a lifetime.

AS SEEN ON CHANNEL 7's QUEENSLAND WEEKENDER PROGRAM!
Natures Image Photography
Andrew Goodall
After running my own gallery for many years, in 2008 I turned to teaching photography as a new challenge. Then I discoverd something quite unexpected:

I enjoy teaching photography almost as much as I enjoy taking photos!

What's more, people really want to learn what I have to share.

At a Photography Essentials workshop, you will learn more in two days than you ever thought possible, AND have the chance to join a growing community of past students who are helping each other grow as photographers - long after the workshop is over!

YOUR TEACHER AT THE PHOTOGRAPHY ESSENTIALS WORKSHOP
WHO IS ANDREW GOODALL?

Andrew is a professional nature photographer with over 20 years' experience, and his own gallery, Nature's Image Photography, in Montville, Queensland.

As well as judging competitions and appearing as a guest speaker at photography events in Australia, in 2010 Andrew was flown to New Zealand as the featured guest speaker at the Southern Regional Photography Conference.

Andrew has released several ebooks on the skills of photography, including the extremely popular Photography in Plain English.

Yet with all this experience, Andrew's approach to photography and plain-English style of teaching is surprisingly simple and easy to follow.

If you are new to creative photography, this weekend is a real eye-opener. In just two days, you will learn to get real results from your camera at the fun and informative Photography Essentials workshop.

WHAT WILL I LEARN AT A PHOTOGRAPHY ESSENTIALS WORKSHOP?

Some workshops teach you about the camera; some workshops teach you about
lighting and composition. We teach you both, in a carefully planned program over two days.
And we don't just teach you theory. Both days are divided into
indoor (theory) and outdoor (practice) sessions.

When the weekend is over, you will know how to use your camera.

Here is a quick rundown of what will be covered on the weekend.
SATURDAY
MORNING
(INDOORS)

Start: 9.30am
THIS IS PHOTOGRAPHY FOR BEGINNERS, SO WE START AT THE ABSOLUTE BEGINNING!

The purpose of the weekend is to learn to use your camera in Manual Mode to give you total control over your photography. You will learn about the lightmeter, aperture and shutter speed (along with depth of field and how to handle moving subjects), when to use a tripod, and ISO (sensitivity). We finish with a look at lenses which don't just make things bigger and smaller - they affect depth of field and perspective and make a huge difference to the impact of your photos
SATURDAY
AFTERNOON
(OUTDOORS)

End: About 4.30pm
OUR FIRST PRACTICAL SESSION.

Everything we talked about in the morning, you will put into practice in the afternoon. You will switch your camera to MANUAL, and see how easy it is to control your lightmeter using your aperture and shutter speed. You will work with movement effects, depth of field and lenses so you can make your photos look the way you want them to look.
SUNDAY
MORNING
(INDOORS)

Start: 9.30am
DEVELOPING YOUR ARTIST'S EYE

Photography is not all about technology. Today we take a good look at lighting and composition, which are just as important as apertures and shutter speeds. In particular, you will learn the best way to approach Landscapes, Rainforests and Wildlife, with a quick look at Macro (close-up) photography to wind up the session.

If nature photography is not your 'thing' don't worry - it is the skills that really matter. After the workshop you can apply them to any subject you choose.

SUNDAY
AFTERNOON
(OUTDOORS)

End: Up to you.
A BREATH OF FRESH AIR

We finish the weekend with a free-practice session at one of the beauty spots around Maleny. No set exercises here; you practice whatever you like at your own pace. Andrew will still be on hand for support and to answer any questions. A great way to finish the weekend.

Finishing time is up to you; stay until sunset or leave early to beat the traffic. The choice is yours.

All this in a relaxed format with plenty of time for questions.

PHOTOGRAPHY ESSENTIALS is more than just a weekend workshop.
In addition you will receive the following:
  • Exercises you can practice at home.
  • Most importantly, you will be invited to join an online community (for free), where you can meet other past students and benefit from their experience through constructive feedback. Many friendships are made, and members plan frequent outings together. My two-day workshop could be your gateway to a lifetime of better photography.

WHAT THE WORKSHOP DOES NOT COVER
  • Photoshop and other editing software. The computer has its place in modern photography, and you are welcome to ask questions. However, the focus of this workshop is on learning to get the best results from your camera.
  • Flash and studio lighting. I am a nature photographer and work with natural light. I am happy to answer questions if I can, but I don't have the experience to able to include this topic in the workshop program.

LEARN THE SECRETS OF THE PROFESSIONALS AND DEVELOP YOUR CREATIVITY
RESULTS LIKE THESE ARE MUCH EASIER TO ACHIEVE THAN YOU THINK.

Natures Image Photography

THE TECHNIQUES ARE EASY TO LEARN WHEN THEY ARE EXPLAINED IN THE RIGHT ORDER, IN TERMS YOU CAN UNDERSTAND
Natures Image Photography

LEARN HOW ALL THESE PHOTOS (AND MORE) WERE TAKEN...BY THE PHOTOGRAPHER WHO TOOK THEM!

Natures Image Photography

THE LEARNING CURVE IS NOT AS DIFFICULT AS YOU THINK. YOU DON'T NEED TO KNOW EVERY FUNCTION ON YOUR CAMERA - JUST THE ONES THAT MATTER!

Natures Image Photography

REMEMBER, LIGHTING, COMPOSITION AND GOOD TIMING ARE JUST AS IMPORTANT AS APERTURE AND SHUTTER SPEED.  YOU DON'T NEED TO BE TECHNICALLY-MINDED TO IMPROVE YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY.

WHAT KIND OF CAMERA DO I NEED?
Most people at the workshop have digital SLR cameras (DSLR).
However, many non-SLR cameras will do the job. What you must have
is a camera with a genuine manual mode that allows you to operate
the aperture and shutter speed settings yourself.

If you are not sure, contact us before making your booking. Tell us
your camera model; we can check it out online and let you know
if it is suitable for the workshop.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?
  • Your camera, with a fully charged battery (bring a spare if you have one).
  • A memory card with plenty of available memory.
  • A tripod. If you don't have one, try to borrow one. If not possible, don't worry: Andrew keeps a few spare just in case.
  • A hat, and some kind of rain protection. We won't go out to take photos in heavy rain, but if you get caught in a shower you will want to be able to protect your camera.
  • Comfortable shoes that you don't mind getting wet or dirty.
  • Lunch. Tea and coffee are provided at the morning sessions, but you supply your own lunch. The venue is just a short walk from the main street of Maleny where there are plenty of cafe's and take-aways.

 WHAT DOES THE WORKSHOP COST?
Price for the Photography Essentials two-day workshop is $235.00 per person.
This includes the entire two-day program. Note that tea and coffee are
included, but you provide your own lunch (see above).
You can bring your own or visit one of the many cafe's in Maleny.

There are no discounts for multiple bookings. If you check around,
you will see that we offer excellent value for money. There are plenty of
workshops that charge more and offer a lot less.

IS IT WORTH IT? HERE'S WHAT OUR CUSTOMERS HAVE TO SAY...
"Andrew is a perfect presenter. Explains things clearly and at a level perfect for my comprehension."

The weekend has given me more knowledge and confidence and renewed my enthusiasm...thanks again for your generosity in sharing your knowledge and experience."

Your method and mode of teaching is hands on, practical and free of technical gobbldygook -- EXACTLY what most of us would be photographers need.

I will be recommending you to anyone silly enough to get near me when I have a camera in hand and asking " How did you learn to do that"

"Description & explanation of things was very good...very helpful. You are a great teacher."

"Good fun and a good mix of classroom and outdoors."

"This course gave me a better understanding of the technical side which has always been daunting to me"

"Gave me a lot of good ideas. I have a greater understanding of my camera."

BOOKING INFORMATION
Note: Bookings are limited to 15 people per class.

  • Bookings for the Photography Essentials workshop are taken online from this webpage. This helps us to manage numbers because the automated process stops taking bookings once a workshop has sold out.
  • One booking = 1 person. If you are booking for more than one person, enter the number in the quantity section of the online order form. There is no discount for multiple bookings.
  • Bookings must be paid for in advance. The website offers several payment options, including credit card (via PayPal), bank transfer or by post.
  • Why do we require payment in advance? Workshops often sell out weeks in advance, with additional customers on standby hoping for a vacancy. We do not want to turn away a paying customer, while holding a place for someone who may not show up. Your payment in advance assures us that your booking is genuine.
  • Once your booking has been paid for, you will automatically receive an email with all the details you need to help you prepare, including the address, starting times, what to bring etc.
  • There will be no refunds if you fail to attend a class you have paid for. I have to pay for the venue and staff...even if you don't show up. If you have paid for a booking and genuinely can't make it, we will happily transfer you to the next suitable workshop date.
GIFT VOUCHERS ARE AVAILABLE
You can purchase a booking for a loved one as a gift.
You buy the booking, they choose the date.

Gift vouchers cannot be bought online. All you need to do is
